Tecnopolis del Sur

Tecnopolis del Sur

This project main objective is the setup of these three components so that PYME’s, entrepreneurs, and investors can effectively concrete the production of commercial prototypes of Electronic Systems with high added value. In order to achieve this in the long term, the institutions and companies forme an association to develop a scientific and technological park. By doing this, we pretend to propel the private activity in a low activity segmento of the country economy, producing wealth and increasing the quantity and quality of jobs in the region.

The general objective proposed by the four founding institutions: Universidad Nacional del Sur (UNS), Unión Industrial Bahía Blanca (UIBB) – Industrial Union, Ente Zona Franca (EZF) Bahía Blanca & Coronel Rosales (BB-CR) – Trade Free Zone e Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Industrial (INTI) – National Institute of Industrial Technology; is the setup of an open area of economic development and incubation, partially located in Trade Free zone, for the integral production of high complexity electronic systems.

3D Gigascale Integrated Circuits for Nonlinear Computation, Filter and Fusion with Applications in Industrial Field Robotics

PICT 3D Gigascale

Modern industrial environments like mines, docks and construction sites, frequently have areas that several resources must share. By resources, we understand autonomous units, semi-autonomous machines guided by people, and finally, people. The localization and pose estimation of each one is of the utmost importance in order to avoid accidents and increase the productivity provided that more units can work more time in the same area. In order to know the location of a unit with precision, it is convenient to have multiple types of sensors and fuse the data with the geographical information using complex nonlinear filters.

3D technology opens the possibility to do this, because of its massive computation capabilities, obtained by integration of several dies. The general objective of the project is the realization of complex gigascale systems on chip in a novel three-dimensional (3D) technology for applications in industrial Field Robotics: in particular, the localization of and pose estimation of resources in real industrial environments where autonomous units and people must interact.

To achieve the above mentioned objectives this project proposes a joint collaboration with groups of Johns Hopkins University (EEUU), University of Maryland (EEUU), University of Sydney (AUS) and Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC).
